About the Valley
The Lockyer Valley is a rich and fertile plain producing around $400m worth of agricultural product per year. The town of Gatton as a population of approximately 7500. Beyond this, the greater Lockyer Regional Council area has a population of some 40,000.
Many of the long-term locals in Gatton and the surrounding centres are descended from the German immigrants who made up the majority of early settlers in the area in the mid 1800’s.
These days it is a community that welcomes people from all walks of life who have chosen it as their home. Adare Grove is another addition to the mix and variety of talent and people that make the Valley so special.
Local Economy
The Lockyer Valley has traditionally relied heavily on horticulture/agriculture and associated industries such as transport. With this strong base underpinning production, the local economy has begun to evolve in recent years.
The area is one of Australia’s primary ‘salad bowls’ producing a wide range of fruit and vegetables. The rich black and red soils, and reliable water sources, make the Lockyer Valley a vital supplier of the nation’s fresh produce. With its close proximity to the Brisbane & Wellcamp airports as well as national transport routes, the Valley is well situated to ship this quality produce to the world.
Infrastructure spend is associated with wealth and prosperity. The growth of SE Qld has bought much investment and the region is on the edge of much more (eg. inland rail).
